7 Safety Measures You Need to Take While Using Industrial Electrical Components

Industrial electrical components require a safe work environment for their proper handling. Even in a safe work environment, you are still required be very cautious and work cautiously at all times. Safety measures are in place to ensure that your actions might not become the reason of a fatal accident.

  1. Avoid Water at all Times: Water is your worst enemy while working with electricity or industrial electrical components. This is why even wet hands must also not be brought into contact with electricity because water is directly responsible for increasing the conductivity of electric current.
  2. Take off Metallic Rings and Watches before Working with Electricity: It is understandable to take off rings and watches that are made of any metals. Just like water, metal is a great conductor of electric currents and wearing any of such items can prove to be fatal. Moreover, the use of metallic pencils and rulers must also be avoided near electricity or industrial electrical components.
  3. Stay Aware of the Shock Risk: Industrial electrical components that are energized and unguarded might carry warning signs such as shock risk. You must always follow safety measures and be aware of such signs since it could keep you at bay from possible electrical hazards.
  4. Check for Electricity before Repairing an Industrial Electrical Component: Before you try to repair any industrial electrical component, you must always check if it is electrically energized as mentioned in the previous point. You can do this by using an electric tester which would light up if touched to an energized industrial electrical component.
  5. Special Care is Needed While Working with Capacitors: A capacitor is responsible for storing lots of energy. Before it is removed from a circuit it must be properly discharged so that you don’t get a lethal electric shock. An easy way of discharging capacitors is to put the tips of two insulated screwdrivers on both the terminals of the capacitor.
  6. Underground Cabling is Dangerous: You must always wear gloves, shoes and a safety hat while working with underground cabling because the damp soil around it can become a great conductor of electric current which can give you a shock of your life. But safety gloves, shoes, and hat would always keep you safe.
  7. Try to Use One Hand at all Times: A nice little safety measure while working with industrial electrical components is to work with one hand. You can keep the other hand in your pocket or away from all conductive materials. This would ensure that even if electric current enters your body, it would pass through without causing any serious damage to your body.
